Dear colleagues in Ministry.
We are writing to all Clergy from our respective Dioceses to invite you and your people to join with us in a Lenten Conversation at The Abbey, Raymond Island, on Friday 21 February 2020 from 10am till 3.30pm. We were much encouraged by the response to our previous joint initiative in Advent last year and encourage your participation in this further ecumenical study.
Our common Sunday Lectionary this coming Lent focuses on the Gospels of John and Matthew and there is an opportunity to come together again in study around these texts as we prepare for this penitential season culminating in the death and resurrection of Christ, and what it means today for our world and our churches.
Our reflections will again be led by two outstanding theological scholars, both from the ecumenical consortium that is the University of Divinity in Melbourne:
The Revd. Professor Mark Lindsay, Professor of Historical Theology Trinity College Theological School,
and Dr Frances Baker RSM, Senior Lecturer in Moral Theology and Systematic Theology, Catholic Theological College.
We also will be participants in the conversation.
The Abbey is an Anglican Retreat and Conference Centre on Raymond Island linked by ferry to the nearby township of Paynesville on the Gippsland Lakes.
For those attending, there will be a catering charge of $20 per person. Those travelling from distant parts of Gippsland may wish to arrive at The Abbey the day before and stay at the motel style accommodation units available on site for modest fee.
